Mobile Phones

Contracts and Plans

By: Sherry Holetzky

How do like your mobile phone plan? Are there better plans that have recently been made available? You may not be aware of new plans, since you probably signed at least a one-year contract when you purchased your cell phone. However, that contract will not ñin most cases- keep you from upgrading.

Many mobile phone companies are creating better plans that offer far more options. Rollover minutes are especially popular, as are plans that allow you to begin using those free "nights and weekends" minutes at 7 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. for a small additional fee. You may also be able to add a phone to your existing plan for less than it would cost your spouse or another member of your family to sign up for a plan of his or her own.

If you are not sure what plans your mobile phone company offers, call, go online, or stop in the local office to inquire. You might be surprised by the kind of deal you could be getting, since plans have changed dramatically in the past year.

If you are unhappy with your current plan, and your current mobile phone service does not offer an upgrade that suits your needs, start shopping around and reading reviews now. By the time your contract expires, you will know exactly which provider offers the better plans, the most upgrades, and the best customer service, so you can switch to the one that offers the most appealing features.

It is also a good idea to check online for new upgrades that might work for you. Many mobile phone companies offer good deals or rebates on phones as well, and online deals are frequently better than those you will find in stores.

Make your mobile phone plan work for you. Get the best plan and the most for your money but making sure you are aware of what is available.
