Ameoba Music

Open since 2001, Amoeba Music, one of the most exciting music venues in the area, occupies an entire city block on 6400 Sunset Boulevard in downtown Hollywood. Sitting in the midst of the Media District and the Entertainment District, Amoeba Music has its eye on the pulse of Hollywood.
Without skipping a beat, it caters to the needs of music enthusiasts from all sectors of the area, supplying millions of titles on DVD, CD, and vinyl to customers who clearly want them. Offering both new and used versions, Amoeba Music’s stock changes frequently, upgrading and providing an eclectic array of the finest music and movies in the world.
In fact, their vision is to remain independent of corporate retailers in an effort to provide the music the people want rather than the music big business wants to sell. The result is a store that offers personal service, a better selection, and a respect for everyone’s idea of good music.
One way that Amoeba achieves this is to hire a staff that includes musicians and music lovers who not only get the idea of music, but also live and breathe it as well. Two entire floors, including a jazz room, dedicated to the world of music and movies provide a unique experience that delights and amazes newcomers and regulars on a daily basis.
Events
Amoeba Music features DJs, live bands, parades, and record and DVD releases parties throughout the year. In fact, they offer free live performances and musical events solely for the enjoyment of their patrons. Past performers in 2007 include Paul McCartney, John Doe, Poncho Sanchez, Sage Francis, Lavender Diamond, Patti Smith, Midnight Movies, Andrew Bird, and The Nightwatchman, just to name a few.
Additionally, Amoebic Music donates part of its profits toward charitable works every year. Currently, they are assisting the relief effort for victims of the Gulf Coast hurricanes.
They also donate annually to the Rainforest Action Network (RAN), an organization that uses grassroots organizing, education, and non-violent direct action to protect the rainforests of the world and their inhabitants.

Hours:
Monday to Saturday 10:30 am to 11:00 pm
Sundays 11:00 am to 9:00 pm
