Snow White Cafe

By Martin Jauregui, Freelance Writer

Where do people go to get a cold drink or a burger after a long day of digging in the mines in search of precious stones? For most hardworking people, the answer is simple: the Snow White Café. Okay, so most of the mining jobs in Hollywood dried up a long time ago, but the quaint little bar known as the Snow White Café still stands ready to satisfy every type of customer, from the happy to the grumpy, and even a few of the dopey ones as well.

Located on the northwest corner of Hollywood and Highland, the Snow White Café is a great place to grab a cold beer and some chicken wings, and just sit back and do a little people watching. Open from 9 am to 2 am, the Snow White Café is both the perfect place to start off a day in Hollywood, and a great place to end one.

The Snow White Café first opened in 1946 and is today considered a true Hollywood landmark. According to local legend, the café was opened by Walt Disney himself in 1946 in response to the fact that he could not find good coffee near his studio. The café was decorated in the theme of Snow White, and features everything from portraits of all seven of the dwarves, as well as a mural painted by a group of Disney animators. Although some might think it lacks much of what the newer and pricier Hollywood eateries have in terms of looks and appeal, the Snow White Café is still one place in Hollywood that visitors, tourists, and locals alike still continue to frequent.

The Snow White Café features a very standard American menu, complete with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a variety of appetizers. The Snow White café offers several omelets for breakfast, including a vegetable omelet, a Snow White omelet, and an omelet named after Happy Dwarf, which features a choice of two items, including cheese, mushrooms, ham, bacon, or onions, mixed together with three eggs.

The café offers several American standards as part of its menu, including burgers and grilled chicken, pizzas and tuna sandwiches. The café's diverse appetizers include brochette, hot chicken wings, a homemade Caesar salad, and quesadillas, just to name a few. Pastas on Snow White's menu include delicious homemade linguini, spaghetti Bolognese, and a vegetable pasta that features mozzarella, tomatoes, green peppers and broccoli. For entrees, Snow White offers everything from a half chicken and baby lamb chops, to grilled salmon and New York steak.

The Snow White Café's menu truly has something for everyone. Besides the great food, the café also offers great deals on drinks, which are a must for anyone planning on spending any time watching the Hollywood locals make their way down the walk-of-fame. Its happy hour is second to none, running from 2 pm to 7 pm, and featuring a 2 for 1 deal on an ice cold 34 ounce mug of beer.

The place that began as a coffee shop has changed a great deal since 1946. Today's version of the Snow White Café continues to delight everyone from fans of the cartoon to Hollywood tourists. With a laid-back atmosphere, great American food, and plenty of room to people-watch, the Snow White Café has everything to satisfy the little dwarf in all of us.
