Finding An Acting Coach
If you have the talent and the drive to become part of the entertainment industry, then you are well on your way. Talent and drive are a must for any young actor or actress trying to make a name in the entertainment industry. There are thousands and thousands of talented actors and actresses with the same dreams as you. You want to find a way to make your acting stand out from the rest, a way to be recognized, something that makes you unforgettable.
A good acting coach can help you find your special niche. They can help you develop your existing skills as well as challenge and advance your talent range. Finding the best acting coach for you may take some time.
Ask your agent if he/she has any recommendations of a good acting coach. Often time agents take into consideration the person you are and who they think may benefit you. If you do not have an agent, you can use internet search engines to find lists of acting coaches.
With your list in hand, it is now time to find the perfect acting coach for you. There are many things to consider on your search for the best acting coach. You want a coach that suits your needs as well as your budget.
Some acting coaches offer one on one training; others offer small or large group lessons. You want to decide which will work best for you. If you are unsure, try visiting several group classes. Get a feel for how others react and see if you think you will fit in.
Check your potential acting coach’s background. You want to find a coach that knows what they are doing and possesses a solid background in the field of acting. Just because a person knows how to act, does not mean they know how to teach.
You want to have a good idea of what the acting coach teaches. Ideally, if you are a newcomer to the industry, you want a coach that teaches a technique. You should try to spend at least six months working on your technique as well as improving your acting skills.
It is a good idea to audition a potential acting coach. You want your coach to be your friend, as well as a teacher. You will be paying this person to help further your career. You should also be very comfortable with their teaching style. If you are easily intimidated by loud people, and a potential coach has a loud way of teaching, you should immediately realize they are not the coach for you. Constructive criticism can be a very good thing, but there is a right and a wrong way to go about it.
Before choosing your new acting coach, make sure you feel good about your decision. Since you are the one paying them, make sure you have a good feeling about using them as your acting coach. If you have any doubts, go with your gut. After all, this is your career and your life you are counting on. Choosing the right acting coach can be a very rewarding step in the advancement of your career.
